Adapted from Eileen Chang's short story, Ge Weilong, a young girl from Shanghai pursuing her education in Hong Kong, pays for her studies with her aunt Mrs. Liang's help. Weilong gradually ends up luring rich and powerful men, and falls head over heels for a playboy. A loveless marriage then follows.
