The Secret of Convict Lake

After a falsely convicted man, Jim Canfield (Glenn Ford), escapes from a 19th-century prison in Nevada with several of his fellow inmates, he seeks revenge against the man who framed him. Canfield and his fellow convicts find themselves in the small California town of Convict Lake. There, legend has it, is a cache of stolen silver worth some $40,000, but only the town matriarch knows where it is, and she's not talking. Luckily the menfolk have left the area to prospect for more silver, but after the convicts discover the hidden treasure they return for a climactic shootout. Canfield falls in love with a beautiful local woman, only to discover that she is the fiancée of the man who framed him. When the other convicts are eventually caught and sent back, Canfield is cleared of the false charges and set free.
