Relive childhood weekends with playground antics, heroic ducks and throwback theme songs
There was a certain magic to pouring a bowl of cereal and setting up camp on the couch before anyone else was up. One minute you were half-awake in the living room, the next you were in St. Canard, Duckburg, Third Street School, or Spoonerville with Goofy and Max.
These animated favourites take you straight back to the ‘90s and ‘00s. Add them to your Watchlist and get reacquainted with the heroes, oddballs, catchphrases and theme songs that made weekend TV worth waking up for.
Darkwing Duck
Superhero swagger comes to St. Canard with Drake Mallard, the suburban dad who becomes Darkwing Duck whenever villains appear. With Launchpad McQuack helping, Gosalyn keeping him grounded, and plenty of villains testing his cape, the show brought a wonderfully dramatic duck to Saturday mornings.
Darkwing Duck was all cape swish, smoke bombs, dramatic declarations, and oversized confidence. 'Let’s Get Dangerous' still evokes excitement in anyone who remembers the show, while villains like Megavolt, Quackerjack, and Negaduck gave St. Canard its comic-book drama. The show also earned a nomination for Best Animated Television Program at the 20th Annie Awards in 1992.

Doug
Dear journal, Ready for a trip back to Bluffington? Doug Funnie grew up on Disney’s One Saturday Morning, and middle school gave him plenty to write down.

DuckTales (1987)
When their uncle, Donald Duck, joins the Navy, Huey, Dewey, and Louie move in with Scrooge McDuck, resulting in globe-trotting adventures full of treasure maps and ancient curses. The show also introduced the nephews’ signature shirt colours: red for Huey, blue for Dewey, and green for Louie.
DuckTales’ theme song could wake up an entire living room in under a minute. Between Scrooge’s Money Bin, Launchpad’s interesting approach to aviation, the Beagle Boys’ endless schemes, and globetrotting treasure hunts, the show made Duckburg the starting point for endless adventures. It earned a Daytime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Film Sound Editing in 1990, adding to the McDuck legacy.

Gargoyles
By day, Goliath and his clan are stone statues. By night, they become Manhattan’s hidden protectors. Gargoyles begins in 994 A.D. Scotland, where a betrayal leaves the clan under a 1,000-year curse. In modern New York, billionaire David Xanatos moves their castle to the top of his skyscraper, bringing the gargoyles into a new era.
Leaning into mythology, the show was unique, making it perfect for young history fans and bookworms alike. The show moved from ancient Scotland to modern Manhattan without losing its sense of mystery, layering curses, betrayals, clan loyalty, and a city-at-night atmosphere into a story that felt like an ancient legend. With an opening narration that set the tone immediately, the episode “Reawakening” went on to win the Annie Award for Best Storyboarding In The Field Of Animation in 1995.

Goof Troop
Goofy gets a sitcom makeover as a single dad in Spoonerville, where he and Max move in next door to Pete, Peg, P.J., and Pistol. In dad mode, Goofy just wants a peaceful suburban reset. Max just wants his dad to be a little less Goofy in public. Pete just wants everyone to stop ruining his day.
It was always fun and relatable watching Goofy try to be a good dad and decent neighbour while Max cringed and Pete grumbled. Recess
At Third Street School, recess is serious business. T.J. Detweiler, Vince LaSalle, Spinelli, Gretchen Grundler, Mikey Blumberg, and Gus Griswald spend their playground time dealing with King Bob, the Ashleys, Miss Finster, Randall, and a student society with more rules than the classroom.
Complete with rulers, alliances, scandals, rumours, rituals, and power struggles, the playground was its own microcosm that made perfect sense if you ever experienced recess yourself. A dodgeball game could become a diplomatic incident, and the Ashleys could reshape public opinion with one joint utterance of 'scandalous.' Recess was nominated for the Annie Award for Best Daytime Animated Television Program in 2000.
