Seediq Bale Part 1
The Seediqs live in the mountainous region in Taiwan. Mouna Rudo, son to the leader of the Mehebu Clan, is a hero of the whole clan. During the Japanese Colonization, the Seediqs are forced to leave their homes and change their lifestyle. Mouna Rudo has the conviction that a Seediq must go through the trials and tests on the hunting grounds to earn the facial tattoos that signify honor. Only by accomplishing this in his lifetime can a Seediq be recognized by the ancestral spirit and walk onto the rainbow bridge in the afterlife. In 1930, a rookie Japanese police officer has a confrontation with the Seediqs due to some misunderstanding. Ever since, the people of the Mehebu Clan have been living in fear of retaliation from the Japanese police. Young Seediqs ask Mouna Rudo to lead them against the Japanese people. Although Mouna Rudo knows it is a losing war which may even result in the eradication of their people, he decides to fight for the pride and honor of the Seediqs. He thus leads the young people of the Mehebu Clan to reclaim their hunting grounds. The Wushe Incident shocks and enrages the Japanese government. General Kamada Yahiko brings thousands of police officers and army soldiers to subdue the uprising. Kojima Genji is a Japanese police officer and he’s always been friendly with the Seediqs. But when he learns that his wife and children have been slaughtered, Kojima Genji instigates Temu Walis, who’s a rival of Mouna Rudo, to help the Japanese hunt down Mouna Rudo.
