Evert Bäckström is a rockstar among cops. His disrespect towards bureaucracy, rules, bosses, colleagues and yes, fellow human beings in general, emanates from his self-image as a genius and being the only investigator worth mentioning in the whole world. His participation as an expert on the TV show “Spaning” has made him very popular among common folk as well as among the “rabble." At the Solna police station, however, the opinion of Bäckström “The Bulldozer” is divided. He’s both hated and loved. Stepping on toes and causing nervous breakdowns is just what he does, but he’s allowed to go on as he pleases as his track record for solved homicide cases is unprecedented worldwide. The first season is based on Leif GW Persson’s book “Kan man dö två gånger?” (Can you die twice?). We follow Bäckström and his team who, over the course of a season, investigate an intractable homicide. It takes place at the Solna police station, the Mälaren archipelago, and on the other side of the world in Thailand. In the first episode a young sea scout finds a woman’s cranium in fox lair, on the eerie Ofärdsön (Misfortune Island) in Mälaren. A bullet hole points to her being murdered 5 years prior. But when the DNA analysis comes back it seems the woman died 13 years ago in the tsunami. It’s impossible, but still it has happened and it is up to Bäckström to find out how... because no one can die twice, right? Another complication for Bäckström is the new, and ruthless, prosecutor Hanna Hwass. Hanna wants to lead the investigation as she sees fit. She’s convinced that the woman is dead and buried on the opposite side of the planet, and that it’s all a technical mistake. When, on top of that, Hanna tries to scheme and get him fired Bäckström realises they’re at war. All measures are permissible in the quest to break Hanna and win back the investigation so that he can return to his old ways toward the truth.
