Der Club der singenden Metzger
Swabia, around 1920. Fidelis Waldvogel, in his early 20s, returns home from the First World War and marries Eva, his fallen friend's pregnant fiancée. The young master butcher is told he has no future in the family business, so he emigrates to the US with a suitcase full of sausages and starts a new life in Argus, North Dakota. The new Waldvogel butcher's is soon able to provide the ever-expanding family with a secure livelihood. While Fidelis starts up a German singing club, Eva, a circus performer who emigrated from Hamburg with her father Robert, an alcoholic clown, finds her own slice of home in Delphine. But their happiness is short-lived: when Eva falls ill and Delphine falls in love, the Waldvogel family's future hangs in the balance.
