1500 years ago in Silla Kingdom, Moo-myung infiltrates in the Capital with his best friend Mak-moon. Meanwhile, Kim Sammaekjong lives hidden as Queen Ji-so ordered. Ji-so creates an élite group, the Hwarang, and the two of them enroll.

Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth

1500 years ago in Silla Kingdom, Moo-myung (Park Seo-joon), who comes from a humble family, infiltrates in the Capital with his best friend Mak-moon (Lee Kwang-soo). The incident ends in loss of life. Moo-myung takes Mak-moon's real name and decides to live protecting his sister Ah-ro (Ara). Meanwhile, the 24th King of Silla, Kim Sammaekjong (Park Hyung-Sik), lives hidden under a mask as ordered by Queen Ji-so, his mother. Ji-so creates an élite bodyguard unit for the King, gathering good-looking nobles and calling it the Hwarang. Both Sun-woo and King Sammaekjong become a Hwarang. Sun-woo, who is Moo-myung, seeks revenge for his late friend, while the King, who goes under the pseudonym of Kim Ji-dwi, seeks to take royal authority back from his mother.
