Chen Xuanzang, a young exorcist, has been traveling and subduing demons. Mistaken as a swindler. the demon-subduing heroine, Miss Duan, helps him subdue the fish demon. The two bump into each other at the Gao Family Village when subduing a pig demon named KL Hog. Xuanzang’s master advises him to seek help from the Monkey King trapped under the Five-Finger Mountain.

As first of two films, this is a legendary story of the young Buddhist monk, Tang Sanzang (Man Cheung), as he endeavors to study the Buddhist scriptures and begin exorcising demons. He consequently meets a fish demon named Monk Sandy, a pig demon named Zhu Bajie and the Monkey King, Sun Wukong. He also has a romantic relationship with the demon-subduing heroine, Miss Duan (Shu Qi).



Directed by Stephen Chow and starring Shu Qi, Man Cheung, Lo Chi-Cheung and Huang Bo, Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons is a masterpiece reinterpreting the 16th century novel, Journey to the West.
