While promoting her latest Christmas cookbook, notoriously private author and lifestyle guru Joy Edwards learns that her publisher has arranged for a live Christmas Eve TV special from her fabled storybook home, "Goose Lane," so America can meet the family who make Joy’s life so perfect. Unfortunately, Joy's perfect life with her doting parents, wonderful husband, and two adorable children is a complete fabrication. Years ago her agent convinced her to create a family in order to sell her family cookbook, and she's had to keep up the ruse ever since. But being a true perfectionist, Joy Edwards doesn’t give up — she recruits her best friend, Max, her housekeeper, mailman, and the two kids next door to pose as her nearest and dearest for the holidays. For the first time in years, Joy's doing the things she’s only written about, with people who love her. As the group spends more time together, the fake family begins to feel like a real one.
