Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom

Robert Downey Jr. swaps Iron Man’s armour for Doctor Doom’s mask as he returns to the MCU in a new role. This time, he’s one of the bad guys. There’s no confirmed connection between Tony Stark and Doctor Doom, so theories linking Doom to Iron Man are purely speculation. 

The Avengers

Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, and Chris Evans, who plays Steve Rogers, are back on the team. They’re joined by Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi.

The Fantastic Four

Introduced to the MCU in Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Marvel’s first family is back. Pedro Pascal plays Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby plays Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn plays Johnny Storm / Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays Ben Grimm / The Thing. As Doom is Reed’s archnemesis, expect the quartet to be a key link to the crossover.

X-Men

This is where Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday gets even more exciting. This movie reunites the legendary duo of Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart as Magneto and Professor Charles Xavier. James Marsden also returns as Cyclops alongside Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Kelsey Grammer as Beast. Channing Tatum, who appeared as Gambit in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine, also returns.

Wakandans

Letitia Wright returns as Shuri / Black Panther, alongside Winston Duke as M’Baku. Familiar faces from the underwater kingdom of Talokan are back too, with Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor and Mabel Cadena as Namora.

More Cast & Characters

Hayley Atwell returns as Peggy Carter, and she is far from alone. Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman represent the returning Thunderbolts* characters. Tom Hiddleston, Danny Ramirez, and Kathryn Newton are also confirmed.

Who’s directing Avengers: Doomsday?

The Russo Brothers direct Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday. The duo returns to the Avengers franchise, having previously directed Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War and Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame. So the filmmakers behind two of the MCU’s biggest Avengers stories are back for Doomsday.
