Te reo Māori movies are film adaptations in the Indigenous language of Aotearoa, New Zealand. Rather than simply translating the dialogue, each film is carefully adapted by Māori language experts, creatives, and performers to capture the humour and culture of te reo Māori.

Moana Reo Māori (2016)

Moana has always dreamed of exploring life beyond the horizon, but when her home is under threat, she finally answers the ocean’s call. Add in the larger-than-life demigod Maui and an occasional mystical creature, and Moana’s journey is filled with humour, heart, and self-discovery.

Moana 2 Reo Māori

Three years after restoring the heart of Te Fiti, the sea has another adventure in store for Moana. Guided by her wayfinding ancestors, Maui, and a new crew, she must sail into long-lost waters and discoveries that could change everything. 

Moana 2 Reo Māori reunites much of the beloved voice cast from the first adaptation, including Jaedyn Randell (The Voice, Frozen Reo Māori), Piripi Taylor (Lion King Reo Māori), Rachel House, and Temuera Morrison.

The Lion King Reo Māori 

The lion cub Simba, "just can't wait to be king," until one event sends him running away from everything he’s ever known. Years later, he discovers that his father's courage and wisdom always live in him as he reclaims his place as the King of the Pride Lands. 

Almost three decades after The Lion King (1994) was first released, the animated classic hit the cinemas again in te reo Māori on June 23, 2022. It features five different te reo Māori dialects from around Aotearoa and stars Piripi Taylor as Mufasa, Mataara Stokes as Simba, and Arihia Cassidy as Nala.

Frozen Reo Māori

As Arendelle is trapped in eternal winter after Queen Elsa uses her icy powers, the fearless Anna refuses to give up on her sister and sets out on a quest of epic proportions to find her. In Disney and Pixar’s Coco Reo Māori, quick-witted Héctor helps Miguel uncover the mysteries behind his family’s stories and learns why whānau sits at the heart of everything.
