A group of scientists based in a remote Norwegian forest discover a rope near their base: a rope which sinks into the woods – a rope that seems to have no end. Abandoning all responsibility, they decide to follow it. Exciting at first, this adventure quickly turns into a nightmare when the secret desires and interests of all face each other. How far will this absurd quest go and what will it lead them to?
The Rope
An observatory is lost deep in the Norwegian forest. The scientists working there are bubbling with excitement because they have finally gotten the green light to finish their critical research which represents an unprecedented step in understanding the mysteries of the universe. However, something has just perturbed their project: a seemingly endless rope has appeared at the edge of the forest, as if abandoned there, near the observatory. The mystery surrounding this rope intrigues the little community so much that six of them decide to follow it and attempt to find the origin of it and harvest data. Only one of them decides to turn back at nightfall, a choice that proves to be fatal. Agnes, a blind scientist, firmly believes that they will return. Tormented with guilt, she pushes away her lover, Ulrik, who tries to support her anyway. The absence of the six missing people becomes hard to bear, threatening the harvest that had been so important to those remaining at the base. Along the Rope, time seems to pass at its own rhythm. Tension mounts in the group, which is confronted with more tragic consequences from their choices – and their stubborn determination to penetrate a mystery that refuses to reveal itself.
