October 1944, Auschwitz-Birkenau. Saul, a Jewish prisoner in the Sonderkommando, discovers the body of a boy he believes is his son among the victims. As his group plans a revolt, Saul risks everything to save the child’s corpse from the flames and offer him a proper burial, seeking a fragment of humanity in a world of horror.

Saul Ausländer is a member of the Sonderkommando, a group of Jewish prisoners isolated from the rest of the camp and forced to assist the Nazis in their extermination plan. He is working in one of the crematoria when he discovers the corpse of a boy, in whose features he recognizes his son. As the Sonderkommando prepares an uprising, he decides to do the impossible: save the boy's body from the flames and give him a proper burial.
