The Miracle Of Bern
In 1954, Richard Lubanski returns to his family in Essen as a broken man after ten years of being a prisoner of war. Eleven-year-old Matthias suffers under his father’s cruel parenting regime and focuses his energy on his love of football. The boy takes refuge at the football ground, where he gets to carry local football hero Helmut Rahn’s bag. Rahn becomes almost a surrogate father for the boy and Matthias becomes Rahn’s lucky charm, but when he wants to travel to Bern for the World Cup final, his father once again stands in his way. Eventually, father and son begin to understand each other.
