After Alex leaves Dave at the altar, they try to remain friends with each other and their friends: Jane, Alex's Type-A sister, Brad, Jane's husband, Penny, a hopeless romantic, and Max, a lovable gay straight man.

Happy Endings follows the dysfunctional adventures of six best friends living in Chicago: married yuppies, businessman Brad and type-A control freak Jane; ditzy Alex, a happy-go-lucky boutique owner and Jane's younger sister; daydreamer Dave, an aspiring restaurateur and food truck owner who used to be engaged to Alex; slacker manchild Max, who deals with trying to hold a job and maintaining a consistent relationship; and serial dating singleton Penny, who fears she's forever doomed for spinsterhood. After Alex leaves Dave at the altar for Bo, a fling she met who rollerbladed into their wedding, the group must adapt to the recent changes as they attempt to remain friends.
