THE BASEMENT: A VANISHING IN APPLE VALLEY
A new take on the Ohio story of numbing awfulness, told through the lens of a survivor.
Throughout Apple Valley, Ohio, the hunt is on for two women and two schoolchildren who have gone missing, with a grizzly crime scene left behind at their home, blood everywhere. It is a race against time, but it is unknown whether they are still alive.
Police have a suspect, Matthew Hoffman, in custody and they are trying to get him to talk and admit where they are and what he has done to them.
In a fetid, dark basement, 13-year-old Sarah Maynard has been found with her hands tightly bound and taped and her legs trussed together, having been forced to spend 88 hours on a makeshift bed of piles of leaves.
All Sarah has been able to see for the past 88 hours is a sliver of light beaming through a narrow slit in the door from the upstairs of wherever she was.
