Equipped with a perfectly crafted script and great casts, Lam surely fired his best shot since returning from his brief stunt in Hollywood. The story depicts a typical cops-versus-criminals plot that shows the duel between law and crime. On one side, there is Baau Wai Hung, a police officer whose nerves are fully stretched under job pressure. Then there is Mak Kwan, a criminal who has obvious weaknesses like all human beings do. There is no sheer heroism or superhuman hero in this film. In a sense, they are both the anti-hero type of guys whom we often find in Lam’s films.
