Manhunt The Wests

The murders of twelve young women by Fred and Rosemary West remain among Britain's most infamous crimes. For years, the couple concealed a campaign of rape, abuse and murder behind the façade of ordinary family life at 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester. While neighbors saw a seemingly normal household raising a large family, unimaginable violence was taking place behind closed doors. This definitive three-part documentary series tells the story from a new perspective, with input from those who knew the Wests, investigated their crimes, experienced their abuse and lost loved ones. Through exclusive witness testimony, rarely seen archive material, police recordings and unearthed home videos, the series strips away the myths surrounding Britain's most notorious killer couple and focuses on the real people whose lives were devastated. Beginning with the discovery of human remains at Cromwell Street in March 1994, the investigation quickly uncovers a pattern of disappearances stretching back decades. As body after body is recovered, detectives reveal how the Wests targeted vulnerable young women, exploiting, abusing and murdering them while maintaining the appearance of a normal family life. The discoveries expose a house ruled by fear, manipulation and extreme violence, where victims disappeared without attracting suspicion. As the investigation gathers pace, Fred and Rosemary West turn against one another. Fred's admissions lead detectives to further victims before his suicide leaves Rosemary to face justice alone. Investigators, lawyers and witnesses recount the painstaking effort to establish her role in the crimes and bring her to trial despite the absence of direct testimony from her husband. Above all, 'The Wests' restores the victims to the center of the story. Families, survivors and key witnesses reveal who these women were beyond the headlines, ensuring they are remembered not simply as victims of notorious killers but as individuals whose lives were brutally cut short. Combining powerful personal testimony with extraordinary archive material, the series offers the most comprehensive account yet of how decades of hidden abuse were finally brought to light.
