Jerry is 8 and his older brother Tom is 15. Born to a middle-class family, they face growing pressures at school and mounting demands of their wealthy parents who expect them to excel but can only provide them with material rather than love.
Tom’s friend, Cheng Cai, is often misunderstood by his teacher and his single father. Cheng Cai’s father is concerned of his son’s performance in school, but often resorts to physical and verbal violence to discipline him.
The miscommunication and supposed generation gap between the children and their parents strain their relationship, causing the boys’ brushes with juvenile delinquency. It is through trials and tribulations that the parents and the children finally manage to resolve their differences.
