What Is Abbott Elementary Season 6 About?

New school year, same unpredictable staff. Created by Quinta Brunson, the workplace comedy follows a group of dedicated educators, and their chaotic principal, doing their best at an underfunded Philadelphia public school. 

Season 6 brings new students into the classrooms, serving the teachers another set of challenges. Despite the odds stacked against them, the teachers keep leaning on each other while the show’s warm sense of humor remains intact.

What happened in Abbott Elementary Season 5?

Season 5 closed with Abbott’s teachers heading to Miami for PESCA weekend. Right before that, “Night Out” sent Janine and Gregory out together while the rest of their colleagues settled in for a movie night. The penultimate episode followed Ava’s attempt to make Ava Fest bigger and better than ever. 

Abbott remained open, much to the staff’s relief. Janine and Gregory reconciled after their split, while Gregory’s promotion to assistant principal gave him a new place in the school’s hierarchy.

Awards season has already handed the show seven 2026 Emmy® nominations, including its fifth consecutive Outstanding Comedy Series nomination.

Quinta Brunson is nominated for lead actress, with Tyler James Williams nominated for supporting actor and Janelle James nominated for supporting actress. The show’s directing, writing, and casting are also recognized.
