So, what’s Banana Ball?
Banana Ball is a two-hour, rule-breaking spin on baseball: bunts are illegal, fans can turn foul balls into outs, and batters can sprint on ball four, all while players break into dances and trick plays between pitches. The format first took root at tiny Grayson Stadium in 2016, but it exploded online — hundreds of millions of TikTok and YouTube views turned the Bananas into a viral sensation — fueling sellouts, an ESPN+ Bananaland docuseries, and a coast-to-coast tour that now lands in MLB and NFL venues.
Each game sees the Bananas square off against The Party Animals, The Firefighters, or The Texas Tailgaters, with Banana Ball commentators Josh Talevski and Biko Skalla in the booth, analyzing and educating fans on the sport’s rapid-fire rules. The Savannah Bananas’ journey:
April 26 — Memorial Stadium, Clemson. More than 80,000 fans — with cameo appearances from Dabo Swinney and C.J. Spiller — kicked off the tour.
May 10 — Nissan Stadium, Nashville. Titans No. 1 pick Cam Ward, the 2025 rookie class, and franchise legend Jevon “The Freak” Kearse amped up the crowd as the tour rolled on.
May 30-31 — Angel Stadium, Anaheim (streamed exclusively to Disney+ and ESPN). Heisman winner Matt Leinart fired a football “first pitch” to open the May 30 game before 45,000 fans.
June 7 — Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte. Panthers legends Luke Kuechly, Greg Olsen, and Jonathan Stewart took part.
June 28 — Nationals Park, Washington, D.C., brought Banana Ball to the nation’s capital.
July 5 — Fenway Park, Boston, welcomed the tour for an ESPN primetime showcase.
July 26 — Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia.
August — Four games in 15 days: Aug. 1 and Aug. 2 — Camden Yards (first game in ESPN primetime), Coors Field (Aug. 9), and Guaranteed Rate Field (Aug. 15).
The Savannah Bananas + ESPN = a pretty sweet team
“The Savannah Bananas have mastered the art of blending baseball with entertainment, creating an experience that resonates with fans of all ages, regardless of their baseball knowledge,” said Brent Colborne, ESPN Vice President of programming and content strategy. “With Banana Ball showcased on ESPN and Disney, we are confident new, avid fans will be created.”
“Our relationship with ESPN has been outstanding for the Savannah Bananas and for the sport of Banana Ball,” added Jesse Cole, founder and CEO of the Savannah Bananas. “As the ‘Greatest Show in Sports’ makes its way to sold-out MLB, College Football and NFL Stadiums, ESPN is the perfect place to showcase the electricity of the game as we near the launch of the Banana Ball Championship League in 2026.”
