What is Lollapalooza?
Lollapalooza is an annual music festival known for huge crowds and stacked lineups, with artists spanning multiple genres. You could be watching a world-renowned rock band one minute and a breakout rapper the next.
Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell created the festival in 1991 as a multicity farewell tour for the band. After its early years on the road, Lollapalooza was reworked as a destination festival in Chicago in 2005.

The 2025 festival featured more than 170 acts across eight stages, with headliners including Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler, the Creator, Sabrina Carpenter, Rüfüs Du Sol, Luke Combs, TWICE, A$AP Rocky, Korn, Gracie Abrams, and Doechii.
What are some famous moments in Lollapalooza history?
Lollapalooza has had its share of headline-worthy chapters. The first tour in 1991 helped bring alternative music to a larger audience, with acts like Nine Inch Nails and Ice-T on the bill. The festival added a second stage in 1992.
In 2005, Lollapalooza cemented its presence in Chicago at Grant Park. The festival added a fourth day in 2016, allowing even more time for surprise guests and up-and-coming artists. Since then, Lolla has continued to mix major headliners with newer rising artists.
