What can you expect from Scrubs Season 2?

Spoilers for Season 1 of the Scrubs revival

The new season picks up where Season 1 left off. J.D. and Elliot navigate their post-divorce dynamic, the interns continue to find their footing, and Dr. Cox’s future remains uncertain after his autoimmune disease diagnosis. You can expect new patients and more familiar faces to walk through the doors of Sacred Heart.

What happened in the first season of Scrubs?

J.D. made an unexpected return to Sacred Heart and reunited with old friends as the show delivered its beloved blend of humor, heart, fanciful daydream sequences, and challenging medical cases that often become personal.

As J.D. stepped up as chief of medicine, he and Elliot struggled to work together post-divorce. Meanwhile, Turk, now chief of surgery, was thrilled to have J.D. back as a colleague. Though they were now “two chiefs,” their bromance remained as joyful and silly as ever.

A new generation of interns navigated the age-old challenges of balancing personal opinions, feelings, and relationships with the demands of a medical career. Meanwhile, the interns and senior staff also faced new dilemmas as social media and upgraded tech changed hospital life.

As the season came to a close, the doctors and interns faced burnout, life-changing decisions, and relationship pressures.

Who are the characters and cast in Scrubs Season 2?

The core cast from Scrubs (2001) and Season 1 of the revival returns for Season 2.

John “J.D.” Dorian played by Zach Braff

Once a fresh-faced intern, J.D. returns as a more seasoned doctor and Sacred Heart’s chief of medicine. Though years have passed, J.D. maintains his charm, earnestness, and tendency for flights of fancy.

Christopher Turk played by Donald Faison

Turk has gone from cocky surgeon-in-training to chief of surgery and devoted father of four daughters. His marriage to Carla is still going strong, and he’s excited to have J.D. back at Sacred Heart, but he also struggles to balance work and family with his own needs.

Elliot Reid played by Sarah Chalke

Elliot may have grown in confidence as a doctor and become a mentor to younger physicians, but she remains easily frazzled and lovably chaotic. While her marriage to J.D. didn’t last, Elliot is determined to create a fulfilling life for herself.

Sam Tosh played by Ava Bunn

Sam was a new addition to the revival’s first season. She’d amassed a social media following by documenting her life as a medical intern, and some of the old guard, especially Elliot, were initially skeptical of her methods.

Perry Cox played by John C. McGinley

J.D.'s reluctant mentor remained at Sacred Heart while many others pursued careers elsewhere, maintaining his no-nonsense view of the world. Early in Season 1, he stepped down as chief of medicine and handed the baton to J.D., marking just how far J.D. had come, even in Dr. Cox’s critical eyes.

Carla Espinosa played by Judy Reyes

Carla now serves as Sacred Heart’s head nurse while raising her four daughters with Turk. She’s the definition of a straight shooter, but her close bond with Elliot has remained strong over the years.

Who else is in the Season 2 cast?

Returning Season 1 characters include interns Amara played by Layla Mohammadi, Asher played by Jacob Dudman, Blake played by David Gridley, and Dashana played by Amanda Morrow. Vanessa Bayer returns as Sibby from the employee wellness program, alongside Rachel Bilson as Charlie and Michael James Scott as Nurse Dubois. More Scrubs (2001) favorites will appear in the new season, including Christa Miller as Jordan and Scott Foley as Elliot’s old flame Sean.
