Disney+ & Swimply’s Dive-In Theater Turned Los Angeles Pools Into Blockbuster Worlds

Limited-time backyard screenings dropped fans into Alien, Camp Rock, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

During this year’s pool-party season, we raised the bar with Swimply by launching the  Disney+ Dive-In Theater, which literally dropped movie lovers into the middle of their favorite throwbacks. As part of the Disney+ Throwback campaign, select Swimply-hosted private pools in  Los Angeles transformed into larger-than-life recreations of beloved films with giant cereal bowls, lakeside camp vibes, and an eerie spaceship lagoon.

Disney+ and Swimply,  the pioneering pool-sharing platform connecting pool owners with swimmers seeking private, real-life local experiences, , announced the Disney+ Dive-In Theater, a first-of-its kind, exclusive summer collaboration that reimagines poolside movie nights as fully immersive cinematic experiences.. Each activation traded in a conventional outdoor movie night for a fully themed environment packed with oversized props, interactive stations, and photo-ready moments. 

“The Disney+ Dive-In Theater allows fans to connect with their favorite films in a way they’ve never been able to before,” said Samantha Rosenberg, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Disney+. Swimply Co-Founder and CEO Bunim Laskin added that the partnership perfectly aligns with the company’s mission to let guests “escape locally and transport themselves to another realm.”

Guests walked through a towering “shrink-ray” tunnel and emerged in an oversized backyard where a cereal-bowl pool, Cheerios® floats, and popcorn-box décor set the scene. Massive ant sculptures and other playful details made it feel as if Wayne Szalinski’s invention actually worked.

Camp Rock Theater Experience

This lakeside-inspired takeover channeled classic camp energy with bunk assignments, a crackling fire pit, and friendship-bracelet stations ready for crafting. A built-in stage invited impromptu sing-alongs so guests could belt out the movie’s biggest hits before cooling off in the water.

Alien Theater Experience

For sci-fi fans, atmospheric fog hovered over tinted water while Weyland-Yutani “crew members” ushered visitors onto a pool deck dressed like a deep-space vessel. Flight-suit photo ops, eerie green lighting, and a surround-sound mix heightened the tension as the horror classic unfolded under the stars.
