Trouble has impeccable timing in Tulsa. In FX’s The Lowdown, Season 2, Ethan Hawke returns as Lee Raybon, a citizen journalist who calls himself a “truthstorian.” If the city has buried a secret, Lee’s the guy who’ll dig it up, ideally before anyone can talk him out of it. The show’s mix of mystery, comedy, and family pressure places it alongside other comedies on Disney+ and Hulu.

What is FX’s The Lowdown, Season 2 about?

Season 2 picks up with Lee winning a local journalism award. The ceremony takes an unfortunate turn but he catches the eye of Ginger, a beautiful and brash public defender caught up in a dangerous mystery. Assisting her with her case means investigating murder, an inmate who disappeared from prison, and corruption among Tulsa’s wealthy.

At home, the unexpected arrival of Lee’s estranged father, Lee Raybon Sr. played by Tommy Lee Jones, puts three generations of the family on a collision course. Lee is reluctant to reconcile but his increasingly independent daughter, Francis, is open to getting to know her grandfather.

Father and son have to learn to live with each other, often with funny consequences. The trouble is that Lee and his dad may have more in common than either would care to admit.
