Jakob Stiller has settled well into his life in Wendland and has grown accustomed to his new job. One morning, a mysterious stranger, reminiscent of a Kaspar Hauser figure, appears in his garden. Concerned, Stiller takes the injured man to the hospital, but all he can uncover is his name: Remy Luger.
