The Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponise him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron. His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.

How does Marvel Television’s VisionQuest pick up from Marvel Studios’ WandaVision?

Westview was only the beginning. This is the final chapter of the trilogy that opened with WandaVision in 2021 and continued with Marvel Television’s Agatha All Along in 2024.

The first show upended Wanda and Vision’s seemingly perfect suburban life. Its follow-up sent a powerless Agatha Harkness down the Witches’ Road with a mysterious Teen, deepening the Maximoff family story along the way. Now, it’s Vision’s turn to deal with unfinished business.

What happened to White Vision?

Vision, played by Paul Bettany, stands in a doorway wearing a light gray pinstriped vest inscribed with quantum physics equations, a white button-down shirt, and a dark tie secured by a tie clip in Marvel's VisionQuest.

Caution! WandaVision spoilers ahead.

Remember the all-white android at the S.W.O.R.D. base? That was Vision’s rebuilt body, reactivated as a weapon. The Vision who lived with Wanda inside Westview’s magical boundary was a separate creation.

When the pair met, their confrontation became a debate about what makes someone themselves. Wanda’s Vision unlocked his counterpart’s suppressed memories, and White Vision departed.

Meet Marvel Television’s VisionQuest Cast & Characters

Bettany and Spader reunite with a complicated history between their characters.

Paul Bettany as Vision

Our returning lead previously voiced Tony Stark’s AI assistant J.A.R.V.I.S. before bringing the synthetic Superhero to life on screen. This time, his character is trying to build a future while contending with some troublesome programming.

Who is Vision?

Vision is a synthezoid, or synthetic being, and an Avenger. He first appeared in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Ultron commissioned the vibranium body, but the Avengers intercepted it. Tony Stark and Bruce Banner integrated J.A.R.V.I.S., and Thor supplied the lightning that brought Vision to life. Powered by the Mind Stone, the new being chose to protect humanity.

James Spader as Ultron

James Spader reprises his role as the human avatar form of Ultron, sporting a full gray beard, thick-rimmed glasses, a dark jacket, and a patterned tie, smiling subtly in front of stacked vintage television monitors in Marvel Television's VisionQuest.

Spader returns as Ultron, this time inside Vision’s programming. Escaping a pursuer is one problem. Having a bad influence inside your own mind is another.

Who is Ultron?

Tony Stark and Bruce Banner’s peacekeeping project went catastrophically wrong when their creation decided that saving Earth meant eliminating humanity.

In Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron, he fought the team while pursuing a stronger body for himself, the same body that ultimately became Vision. Their shared origins make his latest presence especially unsettling. After all, Ultron has a very different idea of what Vision should become.

Ruaridh Mollica as Thomas Shepard

Thomas Shepard travels with Vision and may be the reincarnation of his son. Discovering who Thomas is could change how Vision sees his own future.

Tony Stark’s Legacy AIs

It’s getting crowded in there. James D’Arcy plays J.A.R.V.I.S., Stark’s trusted assistant whose programming helped give Vision life. Orla Brady steps in as F.R.I.D.A.Y., who later took over as Stark’s AI support. Emily Hampshire plays E.D.I.T.H., while Workshop robots DUM-E and U also make an appearance in the mindscape.

E.D.I.T.H. previously appeared in Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man™: Far From Home, another story shaped by Tony Stark’s legacy in the Spider-Man™ movies and shows.

The cast also includes Todd Stashwick, T’Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, and Jonathan Sayer.

Terry Matalas created the show for television and serves as showrunner. He also directs alongside Christopher J. Byrne, Gandja Monteiro, and Vincenzo Natali.

WandaVision and Agatha All Along creator Jac Schaeffer is among the executive producers, maintaining a familiar creative connection across the trilogy.
