Spoilers ahead for Season 9 of 9-1-1
The season opens with a volcano emergency that will test the 118’s skills and dedication. Season 10 marks the start of a new chapter for many characters, while their found-family dynamics remain intact. Athena hopes a transition from front-line police work to a detective role will allow her to continue her career with less emotional and physical strain. With Eddie’s support, Buck takes on the joys and challenges of being a foster parent.
As he navigates the foster-care system, Buck also learns what it means to grow into a parental role for Theo. Chimney looks to make his own mark as captain while honoring Bobby’s legacy. Harry continues his career as a firefighter, May pursues nursing, and the original 118 members step into mentorship roles for the next generation of first responders.
What happened in Season 9?
The show’s procedural format makes it easy to jump into the action at any point, but in case you want a refresher on last season’s events, here’s a quick overview. If you’re up for a full rewatch, you can stream Seasons 1–9 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers.*
Season 9 saw Athena and the 118 try to rebuild after losing Bobby. Chimney stepped up as the new firehouse captain, while Athena turned to work as a distraction. At the start of the season, Hen and Athena embarked on a journey to space, but their trip became a fight for survival when a geomagnetic storm hit their spacecraft.
Once safely back on solid ground, Hen battled an autoimmune disease, and Athena’s son, Harry, completed his firefighter training to become the 118’s newest probie. The season also brought more high-stakes emergencies stemming from a human-trafficking case with a Russian mob boss and a corrupt cop at its center, culminating in Athena suffering a near-fatal shooting.
The season closed out with Athena stepping into the role of detective. Meanwhile, Buck, after years of keeping his distance from Theo, who was conceived using Buck’s donated sperm, agreed to foster him after his parents died in a car crash.
