Season 22 opened in the aftermath of an explosion before the latest surgical rotations began. Link survived serious injuries from the blast as he and Jo prepared to welcome twins. Their daughters arrived after an emergency delivery that left Jo fighting for her life. Addison Montgomery, whose story continued in Private Practice (Hulu), paid a visit to Grey Sloan. Jo later returned from leave, but treating pregnant patients brought back the trauma of her delivery.

Meredith and Nick ended the season engaged. Owen and Teddy’s departure shifted the hospital’s familiar rhythm. Then the finale, “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” sent dozens of critically injured patients to Grey Sloan after a catastrophic bridge collapse, triggering a full disaster response. Jo admitted she was unsure whether she wanted to continue practicing medicine, while Link concealed renewed shoulder pain and took pain medication, leaving both stories open heading into Season 23.
