Our exclusive interview with Dani Iglesias, Creative Director at The Muppets Studio, gives fans VIP access to behind-the-scenes stories, surprising Easter eggs, and never-before-heard details on how The Electric Mayhem’s fast, fearless coaster was unleashed.

Strap in and hold onto your drumsticks: Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets is now open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, with The Muppets at center stage. But how did this Muppetational transformation of the ride burst into action?

To bring you all of the details we snagged an interview with Dani Iglesias. She’s worn lots of hats at Disney, but her career kicked off with the Disney College Program, selling tickets at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. So for Iglesias, this project is a full-circle moment.

“As a lifelong Muppet fan, it’s a dream come true. Almost 20 years later, it’s humbling to bring The Muppets to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in the park I started at.”

That personal “Rainbow Connection,” if you will, helped guide Iglesias’ approach to reimagining the fan-favorite coaster through a uniquely Muppety lens.

And how do you rethink and redesign a Disney ride of this caliber? You call in the Imagineers, the creative minds and big-picture thinkers behind Disney’s legendary theme park attractions. Believe it or not, The Muppets Studio actually sits within Walt Disney Imagineering, so the collaboration came together more smoothly than Kermit wrangling the gang to put on an episode of The Muppet Show

“We’re a small but mighty team. We have great relationships with the Imagineers bringing Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster to life since we’re all from the same corner of Disney!”

Together, Muppet creatives and Imagineers put on their thinking caps, working hand-in-hand to craft an experience that’s exciting for fans and true to the characters and history of the attraction. Their biggest goal? Create a moment that makes guests feel like they’re right in the middle of a huge Electric Mayhem rock concert, but as usual, not everything goes as planned for The Muppets.

What To Expect From Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets

Since opening in 1999 as Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, loud music, backstage antics, and a high-speed limo have been part of the ride’s lore. With their signature blend of charisma and chaos, The Muppets, including Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem, felt like an iconic choice for the attraction’s next era.

“The Mayhem are the best! They all have their own personalities and philosophies. But they’re just one part of our Muppets Ensemble.”

With The Muppets as the stars, things look a bit different around G-Force Records. The experience begins as we’re invited on a VIP tour of the famed studio, now owned by Scooter’s uncle J.P. Grosse. We soon learn there’s a sold-out Electric Mayhem concert happening across town, but there’s just one problem. The band is nowhere to be found. As updates roll in through a frantic social feed, it’s clear that everyone, including a number of celebrity guests, is searching for them.

“When the band is late to their own sold-out concert, their friends step in to stall.”

Cue classic Muppet characters like Fozzie attempting stand-up and Gonzo trying his best daredevil stunts, but nothing works. The crowd cannot be satisfied. They want The Mayhem!

The twist? Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem have been at G-Force Records the whole time! With a little help from Muppet Labs, we hop into an experimental, super-fast Lengthy Immediate Motion Object, a.k.a. L.I.M.O., and race to the gig, with The Mayhem jamming along the way.

The ride ends just in time for the long-awaited performance of “Can You Picture That?” As we exit through Rock Around The Shop, we get a behind-the-curtain peek at the band's backstage area.

More About Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets

Beyond the storyline, the ride is packed with discoveries for fans including brand-new experiences and blink‑and‑you’ll‑miss‑them details.

Iglesias is most excited for everyone to see 30+ minutes of footage filmed exclusively for the new ride.

“That’s like an entire episode of new content just for the attraction! There are some really silly, sweet moments. And as a self-proclaimed #1 Bean Bunny fan, I can’t wait for people to see more Bean on screen.”

Bring on the Bean! We can never get enough.

Get to know some of the fuzzy faces making an appearance as you progress through the new ride’s story.

Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem

Though they prefer to be called the "bring down the house" band, The Mayhem are The Muppets’ legendary house band, renowned worldwide for their funky tunes and rock and roll attitude. Dr. Teeth, Sgt. Floyd Pepper, Janice, Zoot, Lips, and Animal all march to the beat of their own drum, and guitars, keyboard, saxophone, and trumpet, too.

Dr. Teeth

Known for his golden tooth and golden tones, the good doctor has been tickling the ivories and leading The Electric Mayhem since 1975.

Animal

Animal is a wild ball of energy who drums for the band. He often speaks in loud, one-word sentences and lives for music, big moments, and adorable bunny rabbits.

Sgt. Floyd Pepper

With an outfit that reminds us of another legendary band, Floyd is the group’s bass player. He’s the coolest of the cool, hippest of the hip, and is dating fellow bandmember, Janice.

Janice

Janice is a groovy flower child, with long blonde hair and luscious lashes. She’s proud to be the band’s lead guitarist, like totally fer sure!

Zoot

A bit mysterious, Zoot is a jazzy sax-man who always wears sunglasses and a signature hat atop his flowing locks.

Lips

Lips is The Electric Mayhem’s trumpet trilling, mumbling maestro with connections to everybody who’s anybody. He joined the band a little later than the others, in 1981.

Scooter

Now that his uncle owns G-Force Records, Scooter has been recruited to do a lot of work around the place, like producing and making sure The Mayhem stays on track, as best he can. He’s enthusiastic, tech-savvy, and always eager to lend a helping hand.

J.P. Grosse

Not much is known about Scooter’s wealthy uncle, other than that he’s a real estate tycoon who owns The Muppet Theatre and G-Force Records, putting the G in G-Force.

Fozzie Bear

When the band is late to their own gig, Fozzie tries to charm the crowd with his offbeat brand of comedy. Furry, funny, and earnest, he never gives up, no matter how tough the hecklers are.

Gonzo

Our favorite intrepid showman also tries to keep the crowd entertained while they wait for The Mayhem, to little success. Described as a “whatever,” he relishes the bizarre and unexpected.

Muppet Labs: Bunsen and Beaker

Once the band is found at G-Force Records, it’s up to Bunsen and Beaker to work a little Muppet Labs magic to help get them to the concert, stat! Green with spectacles, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew is the brilliant inventor who heads Muppet Labs, but his experiments don’t always go as planned. With bright orange hair and big eyes, Beaker is Bunsen’s loyal assistant who communicates in “meep meeps” and expressive reactions.

Bean Bunny

We hear that when the other Muppets got tired of being cute all the time, they hired Bean in 1986 to be the most adorable of them all.

Statler and Waldorf

This pair of grumpy old curmudgeons have been heckling since the pilot episode of The Muppet Show in 1975. Can’t tell them apart? Here’s the gist: Statler has bushy eyebrows and a dark suit and Waldorf has a bushy mustache and a brown suit.

Kermit

A natural leader, Kermit tries to keep the rest of The Muppets focused, even when chaos surrounds him. He’s always ready with sound advice or a song on his banjo.

Miss Piggy

Obsessed with the spotlight, Miss Piggy is a glamorous, confident A-lister. Though she’s known for her dramatic flair and getting what she wants, Miss Piggy has a soft spot for her friends, especially Kermie.

Find Out Who’s A Celebrity Guest & Who Makes A Surprise Cameo

You may have noticed we mentioned celebrities in our ride run-through above, so who’s joining the fun? Iglesias gushed that a few familiar friends are back, including Yvette Nicole Brown, Travis Barker, and Darren Criss, along with newcomer Awkwafina. There are even a couple faces that longtime Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster fans might recognize, but we’re not spilling all of the tea.

Of Course There Are Easter Eggs To Look For Along The Revamped Ride Route

This wouldn’t be a Muppet experience without hidden surprises pulled from Muppet movies, shows, and theme park favorites.

“Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been obsessed with spotting details that Imagineers put into attractions and now I’m hiding the Easter eggs! I’m beside myself.”

Iglesias and her team had a blast adding dozens of references throughout the queue and ride itself, from real props and costumes to all-new visual elements. Even the album artwork featured at G-Force Records is chock-full of references eagle-eyed fans will want to look out for.

Some Standout Easter Eggs On Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets
