Juan Gustozzi est un veuf qui vit avec ses trois enfants et Amanda, qui fait office de femme de ménage, de cuisinière et de mère de substitution pour les enfants. La famille est au bord de la ruine jusqu'à ce qu'elle hérite de la fortune de l'oncle de Juan lorsque celui-ci décède. Mais l'argent est soumis à une condition : ils doivent s'occuper de Chueco, un chimpanzé adulte, comme d'un membre de la famille. Tout le monde est ravi à l'idée d'avoir un singe de compagnie, jusqu'à ce qu'ils découvrent que Chueco cache un énorme secret : il sait parler.
