Toni, an immigrant laborer, marries his landlady Marie but he loves Josepha, who was forced into a marriage with a brutal foreman. When Josepha kills her husband while trying to escape, Toni tries to help her hide the body. A forest ranger shoots him, and Josepha turns herself into the police.
