Raised by a single mom, he was a star athlete in high school and college, but a lifelong sketchbook habit earned him a place in Disney’s internal training program during a generational handoff in the 1970s and ‘80s. Mentored by the legendary Nine Old Men of Walt Disney’s era, he became a quiet trailblazer, overcoming barriers, tough review boards, and a health crisis that threatened his life and career. He returned to the drawing board with faith and tenacity, to become Disney’s first Black animator. Directed by Disney Legend Don Hahn and full of rare, unseen archival footage, it’s an inspiring story of mentorship, perseverance, and the powerful act of putting pencil to paper, one drawing at a time.
