Commissioner Vasco Benassi is known in Bologna as the “best cop,” but after making a mistake, he is transferred to the Apennines, to the small village of Muntagò, his hometown, which he had left years earlier following an experience that left a deep mark on him. Investigating the cases he’ll face will help Benassi reconnect with his roots, in a process of “reopening his heart” that will lead him to become less solitary, to form new relationships, and to deepen others, such as the one with his cousin Gaetana, an inspector at the Muntagò police station; with her husband, Bruno; and with his trusted friend Fosco. But more than any of his old acquaintances, the person who makes a strong impact on Vasco Benassi’s life is Nicole Poli, the great platonic love of his youth.
